Arab director Sally El-Hosaini’s movie “The Swimmers” will open the Toronto Movie Pageant
DUBAI: Egyptian-Welsh director Sally El-Hosaini’s drama “The Swimmers” will open the Toronto Movie Pageant on September 8, which will even mark the movie’s world premiere.
The work relies on the true story of Syrian refugees Sarah and Yusra Mardini, who fled their war-torn nation by boat and needed to swim a part of the best way to maintain the ship transferring. Yusra competed as a member of the refugee Olympic athlete contingent on the 2016 and 2020 Olympics.
In an announcement, pageant CEO Cameron Bailey stated: “I used to be deeply moved by the story of those two sisters and amazed by the storytelling. ‘The Swimmers’ was the most effective sort of shock to see this summer season – an exciting, epic journey and the arrival of a serious director.”

“I am thrilled that Toronto audiences would be the first to find Sally El-Hosaini’s exceptional movie, and that this 12 months, on our opening night time, we will honor all those that threat the whole lot to realize a greater life and safer,” Bailey added.
Lebanese actresses and real-life sisters Manal and Nathalie Issa will play Yusra and Sarah within the upcoming movie.
They are going to be joined by Arab-Israeli actor Ali Suliman, Egyptian actor Ahmed Malek, Syrian actress Kinda Alloush and “The Good Karma Hospital” star James Krishna Floyd, who starred in El-Hosaini’s final movie “My Brother the Satan.” which gained the World Cinema Cinematography Award on the 2013 Sundance Movie Pageant.
Rounding out the forged are German actor Matthias Schweighöfer and YouTube star Elmi Rashid Elmi.
The movie is produced by Eric and Tim Bevan, Ali Jaafar and Tim Cole of Netflix and Working Title.
“The Swimmers,” shot within the U.Ok., Turkey and Belgium, is slated for world launch on Netflix this 12 months.
